The International Water Project was established with two goals in mind. The first is to supply the necessary funds to repair a drill that was previously shipped to Malawi. The second is to establish one or more fresh water wells in the country of Mozambique. When I turn on a water faucet I am often reminded of the women who walk staggering distances to find water, which is oftentimes contaminated with pathogens and parasites, and then they hike back to their mud homes with 50-60 lbs of water on their heads. While in Mozambique I saw hundreds of women gathering water out of a filthy river, brown in color, and that was the water they were bringing home to their children to drink and to cook with. That was their only option. The average lifespan of a Mozambican is 37 years old. The two main causes of death are water borne diseases and Aids." -- Heidi Wright, Project Leader
