Shelter Box USA provides emergency shelter, for the victims of natural and man-made disasters around the world. Each Shelter Box holds a 10-person tent, along with blankets, cooking equipment, tools, water purification systems, and other items...enough to support 10 survivors for a minimum of six months. Since its creation in 2000, Shelter Boxes have helped over 700,000 persons survive in the aftermath of a major disaster. Boxes delivered by specially-trained Shelterbox Response Teams (SRTs) have been distributed following incidents such as the Myanmar cyclone, the central China earthquake, the Indian Ocean tsunami, Hurricane Katrina, the Australian wildfires, and many other such incidents. Rotary Clubs and other organizations and individuals have helped this effort through sponsorship of Shelter Boxes; the Sycamore Rotary Club has sponsored five in the past five years...and dozens of other Rotary and Rotary-affiliated clubs across the United States have provided their support, as well. Just $100 is enough to help one person in the wake of a disaster; $500 is enough to help five persons, and $1,000 is enough to cover the cost of a complete Shelter Box. More information on what Shelter Box can do is available at www.shelterboxusa.org; and if you want more information on how to support Shelter Box USA in the Sycamore area, or to have an in-person viewing of an actual Shelter Box, contact Rotarian Brian Adams at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
